Nikki Dumbrell & Matthew McNee

WANTFA is working to provide farmers with knowledge about profitable agricultural practices that help mitigate climate change and adapt to an increasingly variable climate.

Carbon farming practices are those that enable the capture and storage of carbon from the atmosphere in vegetation and soil and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils and livestock.

Local trials of some new technologies or techniques are in place in Western Australia so we can determine what carbon farming methodologies will work for us!

The carbon farming tent at this year’s Spring Field Day is a great place to learn more about carbon farming practices and where they might fit into your farm system.

We are showcasing carbon farming research projects and talking policy, productivity and profitability from carbon farming.

The line-up at this year’s carbon farming tent:

Nikki Dumbrell (WANTFA) – Carbon farming policy

Liam Ryan (DAFWA) – Frequently asked questions about the functional value of soil organic matter in production systems

Dr. Matthew McNee (WANTFA) – Can summer cover crops in low rainfall environments improve winter crop production and help mitigate climate change?

For other research and innovations refer to the Foresight article titled “Nutrient use efficiency is increasingly important and has co-benefits for climate change adaptation and mitigation”.
